Active pedestrian crossing
ZEBRA is an active pedestrian crossing which has a feature of informing a driver about pedestrians at crossings. APC Zebra is in sync with motion sensors, active road studs, road signs with warning lamps and an anti-skid system. Crossings are intended to protect the pedestrian when he or she is at or near the crossing. APC system does not run continuously but only activates when necessary.

The challenge
ZEBRA is an active pedestrian crossing which has a feature of informing a driver about pedestrians at crossings. APC Zebra is in sync with motion sensors, active road studs, road signs with warning lamps and an anti-skid system. Crossings are intended to protect the pedestrian when he or she is at or near the crossing. APC system does not run continuously, but only activates when necessary.
To provide the highest credibility of the software, I had to operate through the CPU’s limited computing resources on a small amount of memory. The algorithmic and functionality implementation with minimal computational power and sensor data made this project unique.
The result
This advanced system is available in 4 versions: APC Zebra Standard, APC Zebra Standard Plus, APC Zebra, Zebra Premium and SmartPass. Each version has an intelligent pedestrian identification system. The intelligence of these systems can be seen through active elements such as point reflective elements and halogen lamps. These elements are being activated only when the pedestrian is at or near the crossing. Thanks to modern technology, every aspect of our lives can be improved.
This project was outside our comfort zone, since we got to work outside our office, at an actual pedestrian crossing.
